Ibn `Umar (May Allah be pleased with them) said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Do not meet the merchandise till they arrive in the market."[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].
Commentary:
"Do not meet the merchandise" signifies "Do not meet trade caravans in transit." The purpose being that those who bring food grains from villages, should not suffer any loss because of their ignorance of the market conditions. But if someone does it with a good intention then this is permissible.
